TESA is a medical process or procedure performed for men infertility problems in which sperm is retrieved for IVF/ICSI. This medical procedure is done with local anesthesia in the operating room and is coordinated with their female partner’s egg retrieval. A needle is inserted in the testicles and tissue/sperm is retrieved. TESA is performed for men with obstructive azoospermia (s/p vasectomy). Sometimes, TESA doesn’t provide enough tissue/sperm out of testis and an open testis biopsy is needed.
Who needs TESA?
Irreversible obstruction of the genital tract.
Male partners who don’t have sperm in their semen are the ones for TESA.
The patients with unsuccessful vasectomy reversal.
It is also suitable for male partners with primary testicular problems resulting in insufficient sperm production, or non-obstructive azoospermia.
It is particularly suitable for those who have undergone a vasectomy or have an absence of vas deferens.
